Hello Kitty visits MCM London Comic Con

June 2, 2016

MCM London Comic Con is the third largest event of its kind in the world and definitely the largest in Europe, receiving a record 133,156 people over the 27th – 29th May.

Visiting MCM London Comic Con for a second time, the Sanrio team delivered a Japanese themed experience to delight guests, giving them space to chill out and take photographs against beautiful backdrops – and, of course, meet Hello Kitty.

Passing under a scarlet Hello Kitty torii gate, fans encountered a zen garden where they could rake pink sand into soothing patterns around rocks shaped like Hello Kitty’s head. A cherry blossom tree took pride of place in the centre of the stand, a reference to the Japanese custom of hanami: cherry blossom viewing parties. There were plenty of opportunities to relax on the stand, from Gudetama’s lazy tea room (in a yellow pagoda-like structure) to a bow-adorned swing seat to the peaceful cushion strewn area inside the Mount Fuji tipi.

Hello Kitty hosts in brightly coloured happi coats were on-hand to distribute cardboard Hello Kitty ears and to give a sneak preview of Chanrio Plus, Sanrio’s supercute avatar builder. We also partnered with Fuji to showcase their Hello Kitty Instax camera, taking photos of meet and greet sessions with Hello Kitty. There were also more Deadpools – toting Hello Kitty backpacks – than we could keep count of!
