Super fan profile: Asako Kanda

We got the chance to speak with Asako Kanda, a Hello Kitty super fan who holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s biggest Hello Kitty collection!

– Can you remember what the first Hello Kitty product you bought was?

I think that my first Hello Kitty products was a Hello Kitty plush! My parents gave it to me. However, when we moved house, my parents told me that the Hello Kitty plush left the house… I remember being quite upset!

My mother said that my first Hello Kitty products were a sticker set, some writing paper and a tissue case. I believe that these products are from the 1970s. The first Hello Kitty products I bought were a purse and a pen case. As I couldn’t buy expensive Hello Kitty products when I was a child, my friends gave me a Hello Kitty plush as a gift.

– What is your favourite item in your collection?

One of my favourite products from my Hello Kitty collection is a big Hello Kitty plush that was a gift from my boyfriend, who is now my husband!

Some of my other favourite Hello Kitty products are the Druma Kitty as they are my good luck charms. Thanks to Hello Kitty I have made quite a few friends across the world and my new friends sent me over Hello Kitty products from Singapore!

– What collaboration would you like to see in the future?

I want to see a collaboration between Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse. I think that Hello Kitty is queen and that Mickey Mouse is king of the world of characters.

– How would you describe your relationship with Hello Kitty?

Hello Kitty is part of my family! She has always been a source of happiness for me. I always want Hello Kitty to be part of my life!
